Stockport Vineyard - Our Mission: "To Win and To Burn"
"To Win..." We exist to further the mission and ministry demonstrated and proclaimed by Jesus Christ as described in the bible. Jesus came to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God, which involved setting people free from satanic affliction and deception, sickness and oppression. In this sense He 'won' people to the Kingdom of God, claiming them from the kingdom of darkness. Jesus said that he wanted this task of 'winning' to continue - "go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations" - so we devote ourselves to 'winning' others to lifelong discipleship and obedience to Jesus, especially people who have never had any previous relationship with a church, or people who have been wounded or discouraged by previous church experience.
"... and To Burn" When Jesus, shortly after His resurrection, walked along the road to Emmaus, He talked with two disciples and "beginning with Moses and the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures." When He left the disciples some time later, they commented "were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the scriptures to us?" They then rushed back to Jerusalem and began to testify of their encounter with Jesus with renewed passion and conviction! In this sense, we want to 'burn' too; we want to encounter Jesus to such a degree that we share Him with those about us with zeal and passion.
